At last, the new Get Up Kids record! Congrats to a band who has been going strong for what seems like forever now, and who have formed a sort of "epic" status in the emo scene, without conforming to it. "Guilt Show" is perhaps the record I have been waiting for from these guys for a helluva long time, and here it is.
I seemed in a dilemma because I was in love with "Something To Write Home About" and "On A Wire" at the same time, but that calamity was cauterized with "Guilt Show." The new record meshes both discs perfectly, with that great Pryor vocal harmony and thick, poppy guitars. It takes "On A Wire"'s sort of feel but meshes it with the energy in "Something To Write Home About," making for a happy, energy stricken CD with maturity to match. Solid songs written include great guitar hooks, piano riffs, and anything else you could ask for.
Forget rambling, I've had enough. Go buy this record today for $6 at Best Buy (yes, there is now an "Emo" section in the Sunday ad for CD's...) and start singing along to "MAN OF CONVICTION" and "SYMPATHY," probably the best love-pop ballad written in the last 2 years, today!
