What can I say about this release? Well, since I admit to being a tad wordy in a lot of my reviews I’m going to keep this short and sweet. If you were to throw a couple CDs of “Jock Jams”, a compilation of music from 80’s video games, Eiffel 65’s “Blue”, all Cher songs after she became part robot and a pinch of electric guitar into a mixer, you may come close to the sound of Powerspace’s “The Kicks Of Passion”.
I don’t know if it’s the android sounding lead vocals of Alec Cyganowski or the un-danceable dance music or just the fact that I feel this release is Fueled By Ramen’s most pompous move yet but something turns my stomach about “The Kicks Of Passion”.
A lot of bands are doing the electronic/rock/dance thing right now and to be honest from want I’ve heard from the genre they are all better than Powerspace. I am not even a hater of the genre in general, I love bands like Head Automatica, Men, Women and Children and Panic! At the Disco. I even love the majority of 80’s new wave. All that being confessed I have a severe distaste for this album. If the influence of Fueled By Ramen can ruse people in believing Powerspace is something to get wound up about I will have to assume Satan is receiving monthly revenue checks. This is one of the worst things I have heard in a long time.
