Fall Out Boy was recently signed to Fueled By Ramen, where they have recorded a new full length out this summer (supposedly). Hearing demos from the new stuff, it sounds much more promising than "Fall Out Boy's Evening.." For the most part, actually, the entire duration of this CD, the band demonstrates simply nothing new. The 9 songs are as generic, outplayed, and typical as they come, and sound simply like run of the mill punk songs.
For example (if you need one), Calm Before the Storm epitomizes the band's generic sound, with the dragging choruses and simply basic progressions and sound. They're compared to New Found Glory, and their sound is like a much less infectious and high-energy NFG. There's a little more power-pop influence, but for the most part, it's just washed out pop punk mumbo jumbo that really isn't worth even a single listen.
That's not to say that Fall Out Boy's new material doesn't sound promising; it's just that this LP shows their roots, which have little enjoyment value. Keep your eye out for the new material, as it sounds WORLDS better. But unless you're a fan of pop punk, and I mean a huge fan, and are interested in hearing some of the most basic and simply written pop punk, then this CD is definitely worth skipping.
