Poison The Well

A new record, a new bio.

Bios tend to be a little indulgent and hyperbolic. Written by someone outside of the band, they paint massive pictures with fancy writing and, to be honest, really scare me. It's more or less like a solid hand job from Whomever's pen (or keys) it comes from. So then, in the spirit of protest, we are going to write our own once again.

It's still the same as it was 5 years ago when we got together. We are 5 kids from Florida. We got together because we love music...listening to it, playing it, all of it. Somehow through the years we have worked and worked and turned the band into our lives. It baffles us to look back and think ‘wow we just wanted to have someone sing along at a local show’ but have somehow ended up traveling the world and focusing on the band and nothing else.

We have just completed "YOU COME BEFORE YOU," our third, and (in our opinion), best record so far. Made over the course of three months, it is the most accurate representation of our band to date. For production we collaborated with Eskil Lovestrom and Pelle Henricsson (Cult of Luna, Hell is for Heroes, Refused). From pre-production to mastering we built the entire thing with them. It was a pleasure and an honor to work with such talented guys.

Questions we often get are "why do you combine such diverse elements," or "when do you decide something should be heavy or melodic?" The answer is always plain and simple; we don't decide anything. We all love so many things, and as a result, different elements are combined in the writing process. It's extremely natural; never forced or contrived. This record was written in the same manner. When melody was called for, we used it. When something more abrasive was necessary, it was done. For better or worse, as absurd as it sometimes sounds to have such extremes back to back, it is what it is.

Our one and only concern is creating music. We don't claim to move mountains with our songs or change lives, but I can tell you that every fucking note we play or sing is honest. We mean every word of it. No tricks or ulterior motives, just 100% honest expression. We love what we do. So if you hear our band for the first or hundredth time, you can listen knowing that we aren't trying to fool anybody. It's not because we think we are different or gifted. We just enjoy expressing ourselves with music. Hopefully you can take something worthwhile from it.
