Show Review

Men, Women, & Children

April 1, 2007 @ The Ottobar in Baltimore, MD

Overall Rating: 9.5

Music Quality: 9.5

Production: 9.5

The last two nights I was fortunate enough to catch an incredible new-wave rock outfit from New York City called Men, Women and Children (April 1st @ The Ottobar in Baltimore and April 2nd @ Rock n Roll Hotel). Both shows were an extremely enjoyable time, and I feel safe in saying that the bulk of both crowds enjoyed themselves, too.

It's rare in today's indie-rock (even though Men, Women and Children are on Warner Bros. Records, they still feel more like an indie band) world for a band to be able to play to a crowd that is ready, willing and able to let loose, dance and have a good time. However, TJ and company effortlessly riled up both crowds (crowds of which are usually as motionless as the statues that litter the government square of DC). And it definitely doesn't hurt that Men, Women and Children are down-to-earth and honest musicians.

They encourage the crowd to become a part of the show, and then when the final chord rings out, they encourage the crowd to stick around to hang out and chat. It appears that Men, Women and Children, while incredible musicians, are human. This is such a foreign concept in today's music world, but as long as Men, Women and Children are around, hope is not yet lost.

In case you were wondering, even if you've never seen or heard this band before, you will feel just as welcomed and loved as all the kids dancing and singing their hearts out.

Maybe the business of music will always be dollars and cents, but for a brief moment, Men, Women and Children reminded me of what's really important, honest music and having an extremely enjoyable time.

Definitely check out Men, Women and Children if they come through (or near) your town. They want you to come party with them as the embark on their first headlining US tour.
